Job Description

The Staff Web Developer researches, visualizes, and executes our Graphics & Branding team’s web and graphic design projects, as they are assigned. This work is done through reference gathering, industry trend analysis, digital visualization techniques, and front and back end web design and development. The person in this position works alongside fellow senior, staff, and junior Graphic Design (GD) team members and collaborates to help solve problems when individuals are struggling with their work or would benefit from outside perspective on visual language or design execution.

This role requires proficiency and prior experience in the technical, interpersonal, and communication skills required to produce top-quality work in our industry. Direction will be received from our Creative Director and senior team members on industry trends, emergent techniques and software, and best practices in graphic and web design.

 

Accountability

This position reports to our GD team’s Project Manager and is accountable to that person for real-time communication and high quality creative output. This role will receive direction from our Creative Director, and input on vision and technique from our Senior Graphic Designers, but is accountable to our Project Manager for deliverables and project-based deadlines.

 

Success in this Position

Success in this position requires realistic forecasting and reporting of workload, and the ability to realistically accommodate or flag requests from our Project Manager in real time. Responsibilities

  • Determining user needs by analyzing technical requirements and interfacing with client teams
  • Designing, building, or maintaining web or software applications
  • Using scripting or authoring languages, management tools, content creation tools, applications, and digital media
  • Performing website updates
  • Developing or validating test routines and schedules to ensure that test cases mimic external interfaces and address all browser and device types
  • Editing, writing, and designing website content, and directing team members who produce content
  • Evaluating code to ensure it meets industry standards, is valid, is properly structured, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems
  • Maintaining an understanding of the latest web applications and programming practices 
  • Backing up files from websites to local directories for recovery
  • Identifying problems uncovered by customer feedback and testing, and correcting or referring problems to appropriate personnel for correction

 

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Solid knowledge and experience in programming applications including security, session management, and best development practices
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, and other relevant coding languages 
  • Proficiency in My SQL
  • Knowledge and experience in hosting development site
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization process
  • A practical understanding of project requirements around webpage layouts, styling, and features, and their translation from design intent to final configuration
  • Ability to achieve creative project execution and to manage a heavy workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid skills in both written and verbal communication and organization
  • Ability to develop ideas and processes and clearly express them
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions on the fly, and solve complex problems
  • Participation in general office tasks such as scheduling, organization, filing, clean up, phone calls, and email correspondence
  • Participation in travel for client meetings, industry events, and company outings

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in graphic design field or in a creative design consultancy environment 
  • Degree or certificate in full stock web development or related field
  • Proficiency in design research, user profiling, and reference collection
  • Proficiency in ideation sketching and other visualization techniques
  • Proficiency in Adobe XD (and/or other related software such as Figma and Sketch), Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Bonus points for experience with ASP.net, Ruby on Rails, or REACT, or  knowledge of relational database systems or Object Oriented Programming
